I strongly oppose our government intervening in the Syrian civil
war. I do not believe the conflict in Syria jeopardizes or affects, in
any way, the national security of the United States. And I believe that
our military should only be used by our government when our national
security is threatened.
Additionally, I don't believe that this civil war necessarily affects Israel's national security, or I should more specifically say that I don't believe that, absent US intervention, Israel is less safe. I believe it is the case in the past few years that Israel has a couple of times taken out weapons that were in Syria. The Israeli military and intelligence are very strong. Plus, if there is an imminent threat from Syria or from a spillover of the Syrian war, Israel will be completely justified (in both a moral and legal way) in taking action it deems necessary to protect itself. If the US government gets involved in the Syrian conflict without that civil war posing a threat to us, the US government will be acting in a way outside of the intention of the founders who wrote the Constitution, and it might also be acting in illegally according to treaties to which the US government is a signatory.

Plus, one of the three groups of rebels against the Assad
regime is Al Nusra (a terrorist organization directly allied with al
Qaeda). By supporting the rebels against Assad, the US government would
be supporting Al Qaeda.
I understand that this week there came out definitive
evidence that there were chemical weapons used in Syria. The media and
the President and Secretary of State are all accusing the Assad regime
of having ordered the attack, with ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE. I think it is
very possible that this chemical attack was released by Al Nusra as a
false flag attack in an attempt to rally the world against the Assad
regime. Without the Assad regime, Al Nusra would be able to take over
more easily, or at least a power vacuum might create chaos during which
Al Nusra could cause devastation.
In spite of being a pretty evil person as a
dictator, he, as a minority Alawite, as ruled a majority mainstream
Muslim country in a very secular way. Christians have been in Syria for
2000 years. If the rebels take over, I think based on what we've seen
from Iraq and Egypt, radical Muslim groups will drive all of the
Christians out of yet another Arab country.
And there's no way to know that it will be a limited engagement as the Obama administration promises. Our government promised that the Iraq war would be over in a few weeks and that it would be paid for by Arab oil money. Our government promised us that there would be no boots on the ground in Libya (subsequently we needed to put boots on the ground to save people from a downed plane). Now our government says that the Syrian intervention with be a limited engagement, no boots on the ground; and today Kerry said that the Arabs will pay for the war!
And shouldn't the US only use its military in an attempt to win, not stalemate? The Obama administration said it will not likely target the chemical weapons themselves. Of course this makes sense, as I would think that bombing a chemical weapons site could release those very chemicals into the air and environment and kill innocent people in the surrounding areas. So we won't bomb them. And Kerry already said, NO BOOTS ON THE GROUND. But without bombing the chemical weapons, and without sending military in to capture and remove them, the chemical weapons will still be there. And what will stop who ever used them from using them again?

Just imagine if foreign countries, intervened,
in a significant way, in the US civil war. Instead of around 600,000 deaths, there might have been 1,000,000 deaths... and perhaps
foreigners would have taken over, occupied, and divided up the land...
there's just no way to know what would have happened.
I think there are so many unknowns about
this entire mess, as I outlined above. A few things that are known are
that our Republican and Democrat politicians have lied to us like crazy
in order to get us into past wars, the US has not been very successful
with military interventions in the Arab world, our infrastructure here
is crumbling, and our national character is on the decline. We are sick
and tired of being lied to and talked down to by the likes of Barack
Obama, John Kerry, John McCain, and Linsdey Graham. Just because they
wear a suit and a flag pin does not make what they say true.
We the people here don't want a war! I don't think we Americans can afford any more blood or treasure at this time. We are tired of war.
